Curing your Vitamin D Deficiency – The Mushroom Hunt!

The Alpha is upon us and we are all marvelling in what an amazing survival game Scum is and can become. Survival  is key and every little detail counts towards it, in this instance it’s Vitamin D.

How to Cure Vitamin D Deficiency?

The sun is a natural source of Vitamin D and I’m sure we all know that – or at least we should. Unfortunately in Scum, standing out in an open field with little clothes soaking up the rays doesn’t help. In this situation, rather than looking to the sky for answers we must look on the ground!

Eat Mushrooms!

There are several mushroom types in Scum but only two possess the power to cure your Vitamin D woes. These shrooms are similar in shape but completely different in colour as one is bright red and the other yellow. This helps us track them down as in general, mushrooms are very difficult to spot!

Psilocybe Cyanescens

Psilocybe Cyanescens

The first shroom on the list is the Psilocybe Cyanescens. This is a orange – red colour mushroom that’s packed with Vitamin D, more so than the other mushroom in this list. This one is fairly easy to find thanks to its colour but make sure you pick a few because you don’t know when you’ll need a top up.

Update 06-09-2018: From my understanding this mushroom intends to be poisonous. Whilst this isn’t the case just now we need to stay sharp for an update making it so. Liver failure in exchange for Vitamin D doesn’t seem a fair exchange!

Cantharellus Cibarius

Cantharellus Cibarius

The Cantharellus Cibarius is the second mushroom that can provide a vitamin D hit. Similar in shape to the Psilocybe Cyanescens but a bright yellow colour. Eating 3 of either of these mushrooms will keep you topped up with adequate Vitamin D.

I have noticed that these two shrooms in particular are much harder to come across than the other families. I would pick as many as you can find if you do come across them.

Vitamins

If your eyes arn’t sharp enough for a mushroom hunt a pack of Vitamins can help. Vitamins provide significantly less Vitamin D compared with the mushrooms. For example a single pill will only provide 2-3% increase – but don’t go eating the whole pack in desperation, there are several adverse side effects!
